Cheryl is an original Salt-Lake-Valley girl. Her ancestors established communities in Draper, South Jordan, Murray, and Sandy. Raised in Sandy as the second child with three brothers, she was active in dance, gymnastics, student government, and debate. In sixth grade, Cheryl performed on a ballroom dance team, instilling in her a love for dance. She is a licensed Zumba instructor. She met her husband at BYU and married shortly after she graduated in accounting. After 18 months with Hercules, they moved to Portland, where he attended chiropractic college. They have 2 sons, 4 daughters, and 11 grandchildren. However, Cheryl has been a second mom to literally thousands, mostly one-on-one. She began with neighbors, children’s friends, Cub Scouts, church youth groups—and expanding to Reflection contests, community councils, professional college advising, costuming for Alta High’s plays, community nonprofits, and now serves at the University of Utah Institute of Religion.
