Over 175 people attended the 2017 Utah Mother of the Year Awards to honor mothers of Utah and Pamela Atkinson.
Governor Gary R. Herbert was not able to attend the event, but he prepared a Declaration that includes the following statements:
Whereas, Utah Mothers Association recognizes, supports, and values the women and mothers of Utah for their achievements and exemplary service to family and community;
Whereas, Utah Mothers Association will host the Utah Mother of the Year Awards and announce the 2017 Utah Mother of the Year, as well as present the Honorary Mother of Achievement Award to Pamela Atkinson;
Now, therefore, I, Gary R. Herbert, governor of the State of Utah, do hereby declare February 11, 2017 , as
Utah Mother of the Year Day
At 10:00 am the twelve attending honorees each gave three-minute speeches in the Hall of Governors. At 11:00 am the attendees moved to the Rotunda for the 11:30 am lunch and a program. The emcee for the program was Rebecca Cressman of KSL Newsradio, 100.3 FM. A delicious lunch of chicken marsala chicken was provided by Lori Tolbert Catering. During the program the 5th Grade Essay contest first place winner Luke M read his winning essay, and we honored Pamela Atkinson for her humanitarian service. At the end of the program LouAnn Christensen was named as the 2017 Utah Mother of the Year. Music was provided by a string quartet from Utah Symphony and by Steve and Lisa James and family. Floral decorations were provided by Ella Rose. Photography was provided by Kathleen Fueston. Sponsors of the event were Deseret Management Corporation, Miller Family Foundation, Workers Compensation Fund Foundation, Zions Bank, and doTerra.
